APHEX TWIN/Selected Ambient Works 85-92 LP/APOLLO - London's leading Vinyl Records Specialist based in Soho, London W1. Import vinyl LP. Irish DJ Richard James (a.k.a. Aphex Twin) got into the techno sound at it's very dawn. He soon became a master of the 'ambient' techno sound, later inspiring many other artists. Many critics consider his double album 'Selected Ambient Works 85-92' as his most seminal recording. APHEX TWIN 'Selected Ambient Works Volume II' (Sire) Overall, this is NOT what I expected. Most tracks are without drum beats, very repetitive, and quite disastrous in content. While thew original was released on Warp in 1994 as the follow up to Selected Ambient Works 85–92, the California label reissued the LP for the United States in 2012, a repress of which is now available once more.
A milestone in Aphex Twin's feted discography, Volume II was claimed to have been inspired by lucid dreams James had, during which he would attempt to score the sounds in his head, the track titles accompanied with images rather than names.
A gentle, at times deeply unsettling series of soundscapes that has drawn comparison with the likes of Brian Eno and Erik Satie, it has garnered secular reverence unlike anything else in the intervening years.
